Do I have to disclose the type of insurance being advertised?

This is a question that comes up from time to time and the best answer is that you should always disclose the type of insurance being advertised. Omitting this information might seem like a good idea in order to get your audience to reach out for more information, but then your advertisement would not be compliant. This is an increasingly common tactic used in email blasts in which the author gives some of the benefits of a particular type of product without ever disclosing exactly what is being advertised. At the end of the email, there is a call to action, such as “If you’d like more information on how I can help you secure your future, let’s schedule a time to talk.” Although this may seem like a great way to get your intended audience to engage, it is not compliant. Per the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), “An advertisement shall prominently describe the type of policy advertised.”
