Are all insurance agents financial planners?
When it comes to insurance advertising, if you are an agent without a securities license, you should not call yourself a financial planner. Per the NAIC Model Unfair Practices Act, Section 4(M), terms connotating that an agent is in the business of giving advice, such as financial planner, investment adviser, financial consultant, or financial counselor, are problematic. These terms have potential legal implications and specific legal meanings and should be avoided unless they are true. You can use these titles only if you have a securities license.
